The ONE X2, a new camera with a stacked spec list, has been announced by Insta360: a pocket-sized, stabilized, 5.7 K 360-degree video camera with IPX8 waterproofing, touch display, and a variety of AI-powered editing features.
With several notable improvements under the hood, the form factor of the Insta360 ONE X is preserved. Next, a 1630mAh battery extended the shooting time to 80 minutes, and a new ultra-bright touchscreen was introduced by the company to preview images and videos. Without a cover, the camera is waterproof down to 10 meters (33 feet) or can be extended with the company’s Dive Cover to 45 meters.
Highlighted by Insta360 as a “pocket camera crew,” the camera includes four distinct shooting modes in a form factor that fits comfortably in your hand’s palm: 360, Steady Cam, InstaPano, and MultiView.
Four microphones with a “new smart wind-reduction algorithm” promise to record clear, stereo audio. For a more immersive experience, you can even record ambisonic audio.
The camera also supports voice control and will function like the Apple AirPods with Bluetooth earbuds.
The camera will aim in all directions at the same time with 5.7 K 360-degree capture, making you just set and forget the camera, bypassing the need to target any subject or action directly. Insta360 says you can pick what you want in the post to concentrate on, or let the AI of the X2 pick.
The camera operates in Steady Cam mode with the claim of “ultra-stable, ultra-wide footage” for standard video capture.
InstaPano is a feature that takes advantage of the 360-degree camera, rather than having to stitch multiple images together, it can generate panoramic images from a single frame. Panoramic images have a resolution of 4320 x 1440 pixels and can be exported in jpeg or RAW DNG format.
Insta360 says that with MultiView, it can show two angles at once with separate fields of view and can use the face tracking function of the app to ensure that the subject is still in the picture. This feature explicitly targets solo vloggers and developers.
The ONE X2 supports the following video resolutions and frame rates:
5.7K at 30fps, 25fps, 24fps
4K at 50fps, 30fps
3K at 100fps
Wide Angle (Steady Cam Mode):
2560×1440 at 50fps, 30fps
1920×1440 at 50fps, 30fps
1920×1080 at 50fps, 30fps
Insta360 says that the company’s patented FlowState stabilization technology can use the horizon leveling algorithm of the camera that results in stable shots without a gimbal, no matter what.
The “invisible selfie stick” is back, as with other Insta360 cameras, which allows for “aerial angles without a cameraman or drone.” In editing, any selfie stick in use would “disappear.”
“Insta360’s Shot Lab is an in-app feature that allows various editing effects, with a growing template library as defined by the company:” Templates such as Dolly Zoom and Stop Motion make it as simple as a tap to make cinematic effects.
Templates for Clone Trail and Shadow Clone clone your body in seconds. Ghost Town takes your timelapse 360 and eliminates individuals from it, creating an unobstructed image.
The ONE X2 features in-post topic monitoring. “When looking at videos, you can follow people , animals, or moving objects through videos using the company’s” Deep Track “algorithm, which holds them” no matter the barrier “in the middle of the frame.
This works similarly to another ONE X2 feature: Auto Frame. This editing expertise can go through your videos and reframe shots automatically with what the AI considers to be highlights. Insta360 says the algorithm in its recommendations is strengthened and can more accurately deliver more interesting shots.
For $429.99, an Insta360 ONE X2 is affordable. For more details, visit their website.
